Best things and drawbacks to living in ’t Harde West

Pros:

• Direct railway access via 't Harde station on the Arnhem–Kampen line; commute to Arnhem (~40 min) or Zutphen (~20 min) is straightforward.
• Proximity to the IJsselmeer waterfront; direct access to water sports, sailing clubs, and beach pavilions along the coast.
• Quieter, less densely built than western Dutch cities; detached and semi-detached houses with actual gardens are the norm here.
• Local primary school and sports facilities (tennis, football clubs) cater to families without needing to travel.

Cons:

• Limited supermarket and retail variety; most everyday shopping requires a trip to the town centre of 't Harde or neighbouring Elburg.
• Few bars, restaurants, or evening activities; nightlife is minimal and you'll rely on Harderwijk or Zutphen for dining or entertainment.
• Predominantly older housing stock with associated maintenance costs; many properties date from the 1970s–90s and need regular upkeep.
• Geographically isolated from major job centres; working in Amsterdam, Utrecht, or even Zutphen daily becomes a long commute once you factor in car or train changes.
